Not an Anti-Semitic (?)

“Israel is the cancer in foreign affairs. It polarizes the Islamic community of the world against the rest of the world”

Imagine that been said with a heavy Irish exigent on TV prime time, and this wasn’t it;

“Unless you deal with the problem of Israel and the Palestinians in that part of the world, there’s going to be conflict and disharmony. It’s a massive injustice – they stole the land from the Arabs.”

Last week, while Irish TV3 broadcaster Vincent Browne was talking about the second US presidential debate, he found the word Cancer appropriate to describe Israel, and as if that wasn’t enough, he finally determined that the land of Israel was stolen from the Arabs.

Anti-Israel-left -wing anchormen and reporters are not uncommon in the world wide media, but when a TV broadcaster is out with an anti-Semitic statement, refuses to apologize and is not being condemned by any major media entities, that is SCARY!

Is Mr Browne the dread of Irish media? or do his colleagues feel it is legitimate to refer to a whole nation as cancer?
since all major newspapers, TV and radio shows in Ireland almost completely ignored the Incident I would just have to assume Antisemitism is now an official Irish media agenda…

Feel like letting Vincent Browne know what do you think of remarks? Tweet of Facebook him!

By now, we are all used to the creative lies spread by BDS leaders and other anti Israel activists. However, it seems that their students (the followers) have taken hate and lies one step further, a step too far.

While tweeting away this morning I was astounded to come across a dreadful hate-inciting Hash Tag #FuckIsrael.
I must say I’ve never seen this one before, Most of these #FuckIsrael tweets also include our friend’s Hash tag- #BDS.This repetitive phenomena shows that there is a direct connection between the twitterers of both Hash tags. It is important to note however, that from a quick look I could see that none of the BDS leaders use this new Hash tag, rather it seems to be their “creative” followers. A classy – students have surpassed their masters case.

Good neighborly

Funny…

Naturally, I also had a look for the heartwarming term ‘Fuck Israel’ on Facebook. The main FB page that turned up had nearly 27,000 likes! hardly a radical minority…

The pictures, posts and statuses on this page are disgusting to say the least and are profoundly antisemitic.

Like it Pleaseeeee!

Both on Twitter and Facebook the writers take part in cyber bullying; they hack websites, mass report users, spread hate and racial comments. And on top of this all they call for their actions to be “shared”, “liked” and “retweeted”.

RT racist Tweets

The repetitive direct connection between the Hash tags #BDS and #FuckIsrael undeniably shows that BDS activists are totally against Israel rather than pro Palestinian. I could not find any posts in which the words (or #) WeLovePalestine (Nor #PeaceInTheMiddleEast).

Indeed, A supreme education. BDS leader should be proud….

*Although this is not a recent topic, I decided to write on the subject after coming across some Tweets comparing once again Israel with Nazi Germany.

One rhetoric claim of Anti Israeli movements (Namely BDS) is that the methods and actions used by the IDF to handle the Israeli – Palestinian conflict are similar to those used by the Nazi Regime

This unfounded claim is used cynically to mislead those who don’t know the history and facts of the conflict.
Let’s get the record straight!

While it was the official Nazi philosophy to Annihilate individuals and races they saw as inferior, which included: Jews, Romani-Gypsies, the physically and mentally disabled, homosexuals, blacks, Jehovah’s Witnesses and political opponents – the IDF has never had such a policy.

In fact, the IDF recruits diverse population; Jews obviously, Muslims, Christians, Druze, gay, straight, physically and mentally disabled, and many other ethnicity and backgrounds.

A great Video made by our Friend at SpeedyMedia, it illustrates BDSers rhetorics on the subject and Disproves it.

If they insist on comparing…

Also, Nazi Germany has never had an Issue of surviving among nationalities who wish to destroy it, in fact it wasn’t even at war on it’s first few years.
As much as Anti-Israel activists would like to say it wasn’t, The IDF was born out of an existential need, and Not out of a sadistic need to kill or ” Ethnically cleanse” ,like BDSers like calling it so much. Obviously the comparison is not aligned with any known historical fact.

Nazi Germany had Systematically exterminated 6,000,000 Jews, between 220,000 to 1,500,000 Romani-Gypsies , 200,000 physically or mentally handicapped men and women, an estimate of 100,000 men were arrested for homosexuality!  For sure no one in their right mind thinks Israel seeks to execute any of the above…

What’s more, Israel is the No.1 Provider of food and medicine to Gaza and West Bank.                                                    let’s face it- it’s in no way comparable to the Holocaust.

Sure, it’s easier to just Shock your audience with horrific, often fake, images and outrageous comparisons, than to run a (relatively) civilized discussion of facts and ideas. That’s probably why web BDSers will continue doing that.

The debate around the BDS’s call to ban Habima, Israel’s leading theater, from the Shakespeare Festival raises a few questions regarding the very fine line between anti-Zionism and anti-Semitism, and on which side of the line does BDS really stand.

Anti-Semitism is quite easy to define: suspicion of, hatred toward, or discrimination against Jews – it is quite simply, racism based on religion.

Anti-Zionism is a bit harder to nail down: opposition to Zionistic views and the state of Israel – it is, in the the BDS movements view, a political stance.

Let’s assume that anti-Zionism is strictly legitimate and political view and right to be held by anyone who wants to change the status quo in Israel. How does this view fit with trying to boycott the Hebrew language?

Plays at the Globe to Globe Shakespeare festival are enacted in 37 languages – From common English to Cantonese, Brazilian Portuguese, Yoruba, Hip Hop (!) and even Palestinian Arabic. But not Hebrew?

The Hebrew language belongs to the Jews through the Bible for thousands of years and is not dependent only on Jews who chose to live in Israel. It exists in religious ceremonies by Jews all over the world and has existed long before the state of Israel was established or even dreamed of.

The Globe Theater denounced early on the BDS’s call to bar Habima’s performance from the festival in an open letter  based on this simple point:

“Rather, we wished to celebrate the huge variety of languages and cultures which have encountered, learnt from and extended the reach of Shakespeare’s work, and as such we were determined to reflect as wide and as comprehensive a variety of languages as possible.”

Still, the calls to boycott or simply disrupt the Hebrew performance continue.

Is this a case of anti-Zionism or anti-Semitism or both? Or perhaps, anti-Zionism is simply anti-Semitism as was so eloquently put by the late Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King in his Letter to an Anti-Zionist Friend:

And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews.  In short, it is anti-Semitism…The times have made it unpopular, in the West, to proclaim openly a hatred of the Jews.  This being the case, the anti-Semite must constantly seek new forms and forums for his poison.  How he must revel in the new masquerrade!  He does not hate the Jews, he is just ‘anti-Zionist’! Let my words echo in the depths of your soul:  When people criticize Zionism, they mean Jews — make no mistake about it.”

I am sure that when the all the BDS supporters say “Zionist”, they are referring to all Jews living in Israel regardless of their age and political beliefs.

I am equally sure that 90% of them are simply anti-Semitic.

I am even more certain that boycotting a Hebrew version of Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice” is quite simply anti-Semitism.

If you agree, support the Globe Theater’s decision on their facebook page, mention their twitter user @The_Globe and contact them here.

And if you are lucky enough to be in London on the 28th or the 29th of May, buy a ticket and experience Shakespeare in Hebrew.

May 2 update: Ian Thal wrote about this intelligently and exhaustively in his blog. Worth reading.

I read a piece at the Washington Free Beacon Yesterday (published Thursday), stating that:

“The artist who took second place in the Iranian-backed International Holocaust Cartoon Competition is now making derogatory sketches for Occupy AIPAC, a far-left group that accuses the American Israel Public Affairs Committee of controlling U.S. foreign policy. Carlos Latuff is the Holocaust-denying cartoonist who has attracted controversy for illustrating cartoons that portray the Israel Defense Forcecommitting war crimes during the 2008 Gaza war.”

After repeated inquiries, the problematic works were removed  and group leader Rae Abilaeh claimed Occupy Aipac had no idea about this. But I still have to wonder how a movement that presents itself as a legit and democratic protest group uses artwork by a guy who created this cartoon among others
